President's Leadership Academy

The President’s Leadership Academy is a two-year program that consists of students working directly with the President of the college and assisting with activities for first-year students. Each year, 20 students are selected for the incoming fall class.  These are students who exhibit characteristics of honesty, reliability and a willingness to try new things. PLA is a two-year program with second-year students assisting with the activities for the first-year students.

PLA students have the opportunity to interact with many of the College’s and community’s most influential and creative individuals.  The PLA students interact weekly with President Pierson and participate in extracurricular activities that enhance leadership knowledge and skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful candidates must be first-time, full-time freshmen starting in the fall semester.
  • Enroll in the PLA section of College Orientation
  • Have applied to and been accepted for admission at Crowder College.
  • Show a willingness to learn and be engaged in campus life.
  • Follow the application instructions 

EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend meetings and events that are deemed mandatory
    • We have a class retreat in the fall semester
  • Be involved on campus. 
  • Attend campus-hosted events, programs, and banquets throughout the year.
  • Live on campus or within 31 miles of campus.
  • Complete two office hours each week for a total of 30 hours (you will be assigned an office based on your strengths and class schedule).
  • Be a full-time student every semester.
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA.
  • Assist with campus activities.

 

The Scholarship

  • The President’s Leadership Academy award includes a $500 scholarship each semester
  • The award will continue up to three (3) full semesters contingent upon the recipient meeting the academic and activity attendance requirements, adherence to the standards of behavior in the student code of conduct and the availability of scholarship funds at the end of each semester.
