Neosho, MO – Crowder College’s Board of Trustees approved the establishment of an eSports team under the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports at its meeting on Monday, October 28.
According to a release from NJCAA Esports, the association will develop rules and eligibility for student participation, in addition to competition schedules which will include online, LAN and national championship events. NJCAA Esports, through Legacy Esports, will deliver competition software, communication forum creation and moderation, competition administration, and dedicated account management.
To participate players will be required to meet NJCAA eligibility requirements.
Athletic Director, John Sisemore, presented the information to the Board of Trustees on Monday explaining the opportunities an esports program offers the college and its students. “I am not a video game player, so this is new to me, but the $900M industry continues to grow. There are currently 500 colleges with esports teams and we feel there are students who would be involved. There are nine Missouri colleges already registered as well as local school districts with esports teams,” stated Sisemore.
The fall 2019 season offers three games (Rocket League, Madden 19, and Super Smash Bros.) for participating schools.
Crowder College is a two-year community college participating in NJCAA Division I sports located in southwest Missouri. The nine-county service region offers convenient locations at the main campus in Neosho, with instructional centers at McDonald County, Cassville, Nevada, Webb City, and the Joplin Advanced Training and Technology Center.
