Crowder College had a third-place finisher at the SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference. Dylan Jones (Carthage) placed third, earning a bronze medal, in Information Technology Services.
Jones is a Computer Network Support student at Crowder entering his second year this fall. He is a member of SkillsUSA and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Based on his performance at the national conference and in the classroom, Jones has been awarded a scholarship from a local computer IT company. Jones also participated in the Upward Bound program at Crowder while attending Carthage High School.
“The competition was awesome! I was able to network with people as techy as I am. This is my third year at nationals, as I previously competed in mobile robotics in high school,” stated Dylan Jones. “I would love to work for a Fortune 500 company someday in technology.
Jones was among more than 300 students, teachers, and CTE administrators from Missouri attending the annual event in Louisville, KY where overall attendance exceeded 19,000. Special guests included Kentucky’s Governor Matt Bevin, Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Dr. Mitchell Zais, Robin Utz (Branch Chief, CTAE, US DOE), and more.
During the national competition, Missouri’s more than 200 high school and college students alongside more than 6,400 other students worked against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, construction, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. All contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies that are set by industry.
