Governor Mike Parson has indicated that preparing students for Missouri’s 21st century workforce is a top priority in the state. Opportunities abound in today’s economy for students who attain some type of specialized technical skill, an industry recognized credential or post-secondary training. All of these can be accomplished by attending Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs around the state.
We believe CTE programming is underutilized by Missouri’s students, so we are trying to find out why. We want to know how our current CTE programming is perceived by students, parents and guardians, business leaders, school counselors and other educators as school districts consider adding courses in CTE and encouraging more students to enroll in these programs.
The CTE Advisory Council, established in Section 178.550.1, RSMO, has developed a survey to gather feedback on people’s perceptions about CTE. Once the results of the survey have been analyzed, the Advisory Council’s goal is to develop and implement a comprehensive statewide communications and marketing campaign to improve public confidence in CTE and to increase the number of students participating in the programming.
