RE: Crowder College to See Helicopter Landing on Neosho Campus for EMT Training

Neosho, MO – Crowder College – On Friday morning (09/13/2024) at 9:30 am, MedFlight from Joplin is expected to land South of Smith Hall to provide real-world training for EMT students.

The flight nurse will give a presentation to the students and after the helicopter lands, students will practice loading a simulated patient onto the helicopter to provide the proper health and safety measures that an EMT would provide in a real MedFlight scenario.

Due to the rural nature of the communities in which Crowder College serves, it’s fairly common for resources like a helicopter to be utilized in emergency response situations. This helps better prepare students for the range of resources they may need when working in the field.

“I believe it’s a good idea to do this during initial education and we have done so in previous EMS classes,” said Steve Howe, Crowder College EMS Instructor. “I think it sparks an interest to further their education since flight crews require specialized certifications.”

This event is weather permitting and in the event it is cancelled due to weather, notifications will be sent out.
