Established in 1918 by Missouri two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the scholarship and academic achievement among two-year, associate degree college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for individual growth of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate to exchange ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship between scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Membership into Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only. In order for a student to receive an invitation, the student must have completed a minimum of twelve hours of associate degree course work and earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment in the two-year college, a 3.0 GPA or higher. Part-time and full-time students are eligible for membership to Phi Theta Kappa.
