Crime Prevention
Sexual Assault is an act of aggression and coercion and is illegal and violates the standards of acceptable behavior at Crowder College. It is important for all Crowder College students, staff, faculty, and visitors to be aware of safety precautions that will minimize the risks of you becoming a victim of assault:
Safety Tips:
- If you are attacked, you have the right to defend yourself, even if it means hurting the other person.
- Do not walk alone at night. Call Campus Security for an escort.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Stay away from bushes and shrubs in isolated areas where someone could be hiding; be aware of others around you in case you need help.
- Trust your instincts. If you see someone suspicious, go to the nearest place of safety and call for help.
- Call security to share a description of the person and to get an escort.
- Walking with confidence may deter an attacker.
- Carry your keys in your hand with the key you will use next held separately. It will lessen the time needed to open the door. A key also makes a good weapon in case you are attacked.
- Let others know where you are and with whom. Call your destination before you leave and call back when you have arrived safely. In case something happens to you on your way, this information will be very valuable to the police.
- Look in the back seat of your car before you enter it.
- Always lock the doors to your residence.
- If you are attacked, yell, if you can. Yelling alone could scare away your attacker. Yell “911” and people will know you are in trouble.
- If you jog or walk for exercise, don’t take the same route everyday. An attacker may observe your pattern for several days before he/she decides to assault you.
- Take a self-defense class.
Concealed Weapons Policy:
Possession and/or the use of firearms or dangerous weapons are strictly prohibited on campus or at any official college function and may violate state law and are punishable by the college. This policy applies to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. All Crowder College Campuses Webb City, Nevada, Neosho, Cassville Anderson, and Monett are included in this policy.
