NEW SOCCER
COACH
Brad Smith has been chosen to lead Crowder College
into the soccer mainstream. Coach Smith comes to Crowder with
over 30 years of college coaching and administrative experience.
He has amassed over 290 collegiate coaching wins and has led three
different teams to the NAIA National Soccer Tournament. His teams
are known for their quality of play, competitiveness and sportsmanship.
Smith is known as a
program builder. He has started soccer programs at Westmar University,
Si Tanka University and Dakota Wesleyan University. He has also
had stops at Brescia University, Tarkio College, Tennessee Wesleyan
College, and East Carolina University. He has been involved with
the administration of NAIA soccer serving as both a Region and
Conference Chairman for over 15 years.
Smith’s Brescia
University teams have won the last two regular season Kentucky
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. He has had
numerous players named to All Conference, All Region and All America
teams. Known as a players coach, Smith has also directed the Thunderdome
Indoor Soccer Tournament for the past 26 years. Thunderdome is
the longest running (consecutive years) indoor soccer tournament
in the country. He has written a book, McClellan Park Dragons,
which he hopes will be the first in a series of youth soccer books.
“I am excited
about the opportunity at Crowder,” Smith said. “The
student first attitude makes it very enticing to become part of
the Crowder family. I hope we can give the Crowder community a
team worthy of their support and look forward to making the post
season dreams a reality.”
Smith has a M.S. from
the University of Tennessee in Motor Behavior and Sport Psychology,
a MAed from East Carolina University in Counselor Education, and
a B.A. from East Carolina University in Sociology. He is committed
to a well rounded education for his players and the cohesiveness
of his teams.
